Privatize the French games, the jackpot for the state?

To fund an aid fund for innovation, the government plans a partial privatization of the French Games (FDJ) which holds the monopoly on gambling. According to the "Journal du dimanche", the state would retain a blocking minority when the capital is scheduled for 2019.

The French games is a very profitable company, it has a turnover of 15 billion euros a year thanks to the 26 million players who try their luck.

The state that owns 72% of the capital would sell about 50% of the shares but would keep the 25% blockage to avoid any slippage.

The government can hope to withdraw a good sum of this partial privatization, which would also accompany that of AĆ©roports de Paris. But is this a good deal? Some doubt it. Because if after this operation the tax will always collect 3 billion euros of taxes on the stakes, the State will have to give up its share of the 124 million euros paid each year by the FDJ to its shareholders.

The bad precedent of the highways

A short-term vision, denounces Guillaume Peltier, vice-president of The Republicans. For example, since the State privatized the highways ten years ago, tolls have increased by 20% and the 1.6 billion euros of annual dividends are no longer due to public finances but to motorway companies.
